The Pura Vida Playlist

June is about evenings spent on the terrace watching the sun set late. It is about long days and music - and this month there is a whole lot of new music on the scene. So the Pura Vida Playlist is bringing you an eclectic mix of some of our favourites. Because who says summer has to have one sound? Here are the tracks we've been listening to this month: Cassius ft. Cat Power and Pharrell Williams - Go Up You may remember the French dance duo’s track Cassius ‘1999’… Well they’re back with their first LP in 10 years - ‘Ibifornia’, aptly named because it was made between the two sunshine...

The Pura Vida Playlist: Summer Nights

The last of the warm evenings still linger (just), and there is nothing better than chilling outside with friends on a summer’s night with some great music playing in the background… Fairy lights, bonfires, sparkling sky, in a courtyard/garden/patio/beach or wherever you may find yourself! Summer Evenings.jpg Here are the tracks we’ve been listening to on the last of these summer nights… Josef Salvat - Open Season Maria introduced me to this Australian singer songwriter about a year ago now, and he is definitely one of our favourite new artists. And this track keeps sticking in my head… The...

The Pura Vida Playlist: Summer Sounds

Our long overdue Pura Vida Playlist is all about the summertime and inspired by some of our favourite ways to spend it: sultry Ibizan nights dancing until dawn; lounging by the pool with a cocktail, what we like to call ‘Villa Vibes’; long evenings spent along the river with friends in London; and of course, festival season… Here are some the hottest new tracks we’ve been listening to so far this summer… Jamie xx ft. Romy - Loud Places This was one of the tracks we played many a time by the pool in Ibiza. Equally suitable don't you think, for watching the sun set along the Thames or feel good...

Travel - The Amalfi Coast (La Costiera Amalfitana)

The coastline of the Sorrentine Peninsular, known as the Amalfi Coast, is just south of Naples in the region of Campania, Italy. We recently visited this movie-inspiring backdrop with its lemon groves dating back to Roman times, and colourful hill towns overlooking the aquamarine Tyrrenhian sea. You can read about our bucket-list trip along this coastline, the wonderful places we stayed, the food we ate, and the limoncello of course! When I was about 12 years old I watched the movie Only You , with Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Junior. I will never forget the scene where Marisa Tomei,...

The PuraVida Playlist: Our Top Tunes for June/July

This playlist is inspired by my recent annual pilgrimage to Ibiza, summer, and long nights spent dancing or dreaming...(you can read all about the magic island that is Ibiza here: http://www.puravida.me/articles/ibiza-magic-island ) It is a slightly longer post than usual, well, because as June has blurred into July, music and summer go together like cucumber and gin, or coconut and rum (in my world at least!), and there are so many great tracks to include. Here's what we've been listening to this month: Jamiroquai - Seven Days in Sunny June Jamiroquai is one of my all time favourites (hence...

Ibiza: The Magic Island

I am writing this post from the verandah of our favourite villa in Ibiza with a homemade rum cocktail by my side, and I'm wondering how I can find a way to share my love of this place with you... pool chill out.jpg Do you remember the Roger Sanchez music video 'Another Chance', with the girl walking around the city with a giant heart which gets smaller and smaller as she goes along? Well, Ibiza restores my heart. And it inspires me. Me Beach Ibiza Collage.jpg Most hear 'Ibiza' and they picture masses of people off the set of Geordie Shore or TOWIE on a 4-day bender. And there is that. But...

Summer 2014 Bikini Trends

I can't write this without hearing the song 'The Girl from Ipanema' run through my head... I am, you could say, slightly bikini obsessed. I own more bikinis than is sensible for someone who lives in England. But the bikini represents so much more doesn't it? As Diana Picasso said: 'The bikini is the last exhuisite shield before the naked truth'. It represents our longing for warm sunkissed skin, sandy toes, sea breezes, lazy days...freedom. The smell of coconut suncream, long days spent at the beach, summer, romance...sensuality. Here are some of our favourite bikini trends this summer... The...
