This month I’ve been doing a lot of driving, and there is nothing better than a great playlist to enjoy the windy country roads, the freedom of the open road and discovering new places. Though we could create an amazing driving playlist from all sorts of classics, this playlist is about the new (or newish) music out there at the moment, besides the Throwback Track obviously!
So find yourself an open road and play it loud. Wishing you a great drive.
Here's what we've been listening to on the long drives this month...
Aurora - Conqueror
I was listening to this as I was driving from one end of Wales to the other recently, taking me through the Snowdonia National Park and the Brecon Beacons - a beautiful drive by the way. You might recognise the voice of this Norwegian singer from the remake of Oasis’ ‘Half the World Away’ heard in one of the famous John Lewis Christmas ads…
The Last Shadow Puppets - Aviation
No surprise here that I’d be putting these guys on the Pura Vida Playlist being a bit of a fan of the Arctic Monkeys. This is the second album from the creative combination of Alex Turner and Miles Kane…
Kiiara - Gold
Wow, after listening to this a couple of times I was hooked. Apparently this 20-year-old singer/songwriter from the States works part-time in a hardware store - I doubt for very much longer!
Tame Impala - The Less I Know The Better
As with The Last Shadow Puppets, no surprise these guys are on the Playlist this month. Be prepared for the slightly x-rated and strange video…
Mystery Jets - Bubblegum
Another great driving song, this time from this British band from Eel Pie Island in Twickenham - not too far from the Pura Vida HQ actually.
Alabama Shakes - Gimme All Your Love
I love these guys, and their new album does not disappoint. And they’ve just gone and made me love them a little bit more…
‘Alabama Shakes partnered with Genero and invited filmmakers across the world to create short films featuring ‘Gimme All Your Love’ as the soundtrack! After receiving over 100 incredible submissions, the band chose this film by Larry Ismail & Marie-Laure Blancho as their Official Selection.’
Michael Kiwanuka - Black Man In A White World
This guys voice, and the sound of this track… It reminds me of some old-school funk and soul - I can’t help but want to get up and move.
Throwback Track: The Cardigans - My Favourite Game
Released in ’98 on the Gran Turismo album, I remember when this video came out - Nina Persson was the epitome of cool in my teens, and a bit of a style icon! It’s still a great driving track.
Get Your Body Movin' Track: Oliver $ and Jimi Jules - Pushing On
I had an absolute blast dancing all night recently to Oliver Dollar at the Defected Party at Ministry of Sound. This Berlin based DJ was smashing it with the funky, deep house set. Keep pushing on…
And as always, you can also have a little taster of the tracks from the Pura Vida Playlist on Soundcloud:
